Rose McGowan was born on September 5, 1973 in Florence, Italy. Her mother is French and her father is Irish. She is the second oldest of six children.Rose moved to the USA at age 9. Later, she ran away to escape from the "Children of God" cult that her parents were a part of. She ended up in Los Angeles, where she met Gregg Araki, Doom Generation direct, and he casted her into the film.
